Family Fitness This Winter

Winter can be hard work for families. Children get bored stuck inside, unable to let off steam. They will likely take out their frustrations on each other and the parents. After a few days, let alone weeks, of the Christmas holidays, nerves and tempers can become very strained. Card Games For Children: War

Card games for kids are a great indoor winter activity. My youngest daughter really enjoys playing cards with my husband or I, and War is one of her favorite games. :)

Use a standard 52-card pack.

Rank of Cards: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2.

The deck is divided evenly, with each player receiving 26 cards, dealt one at a time, face down. Both players turns up a card at the same time and the player with the higher card takes both cards. They put them, face down, on the bottom of his stack.

If the cards are the same rank, it is War.

Both players place one card face down and one card face up. The player with the higher cards takes both piles (six cards). If the turned-up cards are again the same rank, each player places another card face down and turns another card face up. The player with the higher card takes all 10 cards, and so on.

The game ends when one player has won all the cards.

Have fun!
