Valentine Craft Ideas For Kids

Are your children looking for Valentine craft ideas that are simple and adorable? Here’s a few ideas that older kids can do themselves. Younger kids may need some help from a parent or older sibling.

Gather up the supplies needed before you start so you don’t scramble around looking for that one last thing needed to complete the project. Most of the supplies are probably items you already have on hand.

Box of Love: First, find an small empty box. If you have a box from a bar or soap or a tube of toothpaste, that size would work great. Use Valentine wrapping paper to wrap the outside of the box. Decorate with ribbons, bows, stickers – let the kids use their imagination. Copy this poem onto a small piece of cardstock and attach it to the box. (Older kids can try the one below)

I took an ordinary box,
as empty as can be.
I filled it with a special gift,
and wrapped it carefully.

But please don’t ever open it,
just leave the ribbon
And hold it tightly near your heart,
My love for you’s inside!

Box of Hugs: Like above, gather a small box. Cut a bunch of approximately 2″x 2″ squares from red, pink and/or white  tissue paper. Cut out a lot because you will be covering the whole box!
Water down the glue – 2 parts glue to 1 part water. Lightly brush some glue on the box and stick the tissue paper squares on. You want them to overlap so you do not see the box. Work in small sections until the entire box is covered. Set aside to dry. Once it is dry, you can lightly brush over your box with the glue and water mixture to make it more durable and shiny; however this is optional.

Once dry, tie with ribbons as you would a wrapped present and attached a gift tag which reads:

This is a very special gift
That you can never see
The reason it’s so special is
It’s just for you from me.

Whenever you are lonely
Or are ever feeling blue
You only have to hold this gift
And know I’m hugging you.

You never can unwrap it
Please leave the ribbon tied
Just hold the box close to your heart
It’s filled with hugs inside.

Cupid Poop: Place small heart candies or red tic-tac mints. Place the candy in a small plastic bag and attach this poem.

I couldn’t send you flowers
And candy wouldn’t do
And mushy cards just didn’t Say the things
I want them to.
So I got you something special
And here’s the inside scoop
I found you something very rare Its genuine Cupid poop

Thumb One Loves You: This is really cute for the little ones. Cut a piece of white cardstock and fold it over to form a card. Have your child press down both of their thumbs on a red or pink ink pad. Angle them together so they form a heart and press down on the front of the card. On the inside of the card, write “Thumb” one loves you”. You can also write “Thumb one thinks you’re special”.

You can even use those boxes and put something inside them. Maybe a something that isn’t too expensive or cheap. Probably they could make puppets that are in red or maybe bracelets….bracelets that have Valentine designs on them like hearts and ribbons and other Valentine stuff. And of course, they can also make picture frames with Valentine designs…that’ll surely make an excellent gift.

This is an easy to make paper craft and can be a perfect activity at your kids valentines party. Children will love making their own valentines puffy hearts.

    Material:

Pink and white tissue paper, cut into 1” squares
    White craft glue
    Scissors
Piece of card stock or construction paper
    Pencil with an eraser
Directions: First ask guests to cut out hearts shape out of construction paper or card stock. Then instruct them to put white craft glue into the center of the heart, shaped like a heart. Using the eraser end of a pencil, place the eraser into the center of a white tissue paper square. Twist the tissue paper square around the eraser and dot it onto the glue. Continue this process until entire middle of the heart is covered with white tissue paper. Repeat the process from step #3 with pink tissue paper for the border of the heart. Glue a hanger to the back if you like. Your guest will adore their handmade hearts and these hearts will be a great decor for the holiday.

I can genuinely say we really enjoyed ourselves – the inks spread out so prettily they are fascinating to watch even as an adult and the fact that black turns into different colors still seems amazing!
so this will go into a crafty box and in the mail for him.. being 2, he knows where his craft box is and helps get his paint shirt on when he is ready to craft..and I know mommy will love to add this one to his box.. so a big thank you for sharing..
You can buy blotting paper on Amazon cheaply; otherwise you could ask in a local stationery store.
    Best wishes

That cupid poop one is great. I know kids, and they love that sort of thing. I was thinking about helping my daughters do something a little different for valentines this year and I think something like that would just about hit the spot. It would be inexpensive, simple and a little more personal than store-bought valentines.
They are a bit old for the “thumb one loves you” one, but it is adorable. I think I’m going to teach them the putting their thumbs together to form a heart thing. They get some creative time at school and might want to make some cards on their own. I know if I got a card like that from them it would give me a smile that would last for days.

First hand out pink, purple and green construction paper, 2 lollipops, glue and 1 marker to each of your guests. If you want you can prepare a goody bag with these items before the party. Then ask them to cut hearts out of construction paper, slightly bigger then the lollipops. Next write a nice valentines message on the hearts before gluing it to the lollipops. Now all that needs to be done is to make the leaves. Fold a piece of green construction paper and cut out leaves along the fold so each pair of leaves is connected in the middle. Finally, put glue on the leaves and press the two parts of each leaf together around the lollipop sticks. Children would be thrilled with their creation. You could give away pen/pencil holders along with this and the kids would love to display their handiwork for some time before they finally indulge in them.
